Bio:
As a basketball coach, I make it a point to teach a
lot more than the fundamentals of basketball. It's important to me that my
players learn the importance of having fun, being responsible,
disciplined, having pride, and enthusiasm. I teach respect, tough love,
compassion, hard work, and dedication. I push the athletes to do their
best and assist their efforts to accomplish more than they thought
possible and reach inside each and every player to bring out their full
potential. Most importantly, I stress the importance of being part of a
team, of being something bigger than themselves.
To take several individuals and form them into a unit is really what
coaching a team is all about. I've found through my coaching experiences
that there is no greater reward than witnessing that very moment when a
player successfully executes a new skill or when she commits herself as a
critical member of the team. It's a coming together that means no matter
what, the team will stick together. It is when the whole team says
"Watch out world, here WE come!"
It is my responsibility to help
those athletes make the transformation from the court into the 'real
world.' They need to understand they are daughters, friends and students
first, then athletes. I must encourage them to understand the importance
of living an honest life as well as the fundamentals of basketball.
Matt has been coaching AAU basketball for since 1/1/2000 as well
as coaching for the Lowell Girls Travel Basketball program. Matt has also been named the Head Girls Varsity Basketball
coach at Chelsea High School starting in the 2004/2005 season. |
